FISHERMAN JAILED FOR 7 MONTHS FOR OPPOSING SHELL’S INLAND REFINERY
Campaigners still being criminalised despite vindication by An Bord Pleanála
Erris fisherman and prominent Shell to Sea campaigner Pat O’Donnell (52) has been jailed for a total of seven months after losing his appeals against convictions for an alleged "breach of the peace" and allegedly "obstructing a garda". The sentences were handed down at a Circuit Criminal Court sitting in Castlebar.
Today, Wednesday 21 October, Shell to Sea stopped work at an illegal Shell site for the entire day when a campaigner climbed onto the arm of a digger which was laying bog mats, in preparation for drilling works.
Shot on the morning of Saturday July 4th, someone from the Rossport Solidarity Camp narrates the various components of the Shell armada in the bay and what they have been used for
The Gardaí went on a holiday at the taxpayer's expense to the beautiful seaside in County Mayo. They were supposedly there as a high security operation to offer protection to Shell while they steal our resourses from under our noses. How can the government justify this kind of over policing while making cuts in our health care and welfare? They can't! But maybe if they would renegotiate the terms of our Gas Giveaway, we could afford lots of things in a time of recession!
In June 07 Green Party TD Eamon Ryan became Minster for Energy & Natural Resources. Before entering Government Eamon Ryan had supported the Shell to Sea campaign and been critical of the Shell project. However since becoming a Minister he has supported Shell and their Corrib Gas Project and forgotten his previous declarations. Video uses lots of still from the protests over the years including some of Ryan attending and ends with him refusing to answer the comments put to him by locals.
"Protesters in the coastal Irish village of Rossport gear up for a summer showdown with Shell, as the company prepares to bring a controversial gas pipeline ashore after a decade-long battle"
The photographs, taken on Sunday, appear to show a protester being pulled to the ground by gardaí, including one officer not in official uniform.
Seven Shell to Sea protestors have been refused bail today for minor public order offences. Three men have been sent to Castlereigh Prison, while four women are currently on route to Mountjoy Women's Prison.
These protestors are all charged with minor public order offences. It is a disgrace that they are being sent to prison instead of being given the normal bail conditions. They do not have previous convictions.
This is a 10 minute interview with Fin conducted as the lock on was in progress on the road yesterday. Towards the end the news comes through of the car being driven through the gates of the compound. It was windy and rainy so there is a bit of noise in the recording now and then.

Sunday June 28th saw the most intense burst of direct action against Shell in Erris so far in this phase of the campaign to thwart the Great Gas Robbery and the destruction of Erris along with its community. A tripod on a road bridge near McGrath's Bar held up vital repair gear for the pipeline winching operation for over four hours. This was followed up by a five-person lock-on on the same road a bit nearer the Shell compound. Together, they delayed winching operations for twelve hours, and there were nine arrests in all.
